Frequently Asked Questions
How much does therapy cost?
I believe in making therapy as accessible as I can, so I use a sliding-scale fee structure. This means that the folks who can afford to pay more allow me to see others for less. Please see Services & Pricing for more information and to determine what the cost might be for your individual situation.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not in network with any insurance panels. The insurance model does not align with my values as a therapist in two primary ways:
1. Privacy. My client’s privacy is very important to me, particularly in this political climate when sensitive information of all kinds is being weaponized against people in unprecedented ways. Insurance demands information that I don’t feel comfortable sharing with them for the safety and security of my clients.
2. Decision Making. Insurance companies often dictate the course of treatment in rigid and detrimental ways to avoid paying for services; they determine everything from how often we meet and how long our sessions will be, to what diagnoses they’ll cover, and even whether they think you need therapy at all. The insurance model does not align with the ethics of mental health care and what we know truly helps people.
Do you offer financial assistance?
I offer financial assistance in several forms!
1. My sliding-scale pricing allows you to find a fee that works for your budget.
2. I offer a number of scholarships and pro-bono spots.
3. I am happy to provide you with a superbill if you’d like to submit that to your insurance independently.
How are you managing therapy in relation to COVID-19?
I am, and will continue to be, cautious about all communicable diseases. I have several autoimmune conditions that require caution, as do many of my clients. It is difficult to conduct therapy while wearing masks for a number of reasons and, as of 2022, I no longer require masks during session. That said, I am more than happy to mask if that would make you more comfortable, so please don't hesitate to request that. I also ask that if you are sick (even mildly so) that you either re-schedule your appointment or meet with me virtually rather than in-person.
What if our politics don't match or I don't want to talk about politics?
I share my politics openly with my clients and potential clients because I believe you have a right to know who you're trusting with your emotions, your trauma, and your overall wellbeing. I want you to know that you are safe with me and that I fight for your rights both in the context of therapy, as well as in my efforts outside of session. If you don't share my views or don't want to make politics a primary focus in your therapy, that's absolutely fine! I'm able to hold space for all kinds of beliefs. All of that said, it is likely that you will feel safest with me if your beliefs are generally left of center.
How can I submit feedback and can I do it anonymously?
I am always interested in improving my practice, skills, and services and I welcome any and all feedback. You are always welcome to send me a direct email, talk to me in a session, or use the feedback form on my website. This form (located at the bottom of the Contact page) is fully anonymous unless you choose to share your contact information.
